Sweet Vanilla Steamed Dumplings in a Roman Pot


Description: Steamed dumplings are a delicious yeast pastry often found at Christmas markets or throughout the year at various other markets. Here’s a recipe to make the sweet version at home. The dumplings are baked in a 3.5-liter Roman pot – this makes them wonderfully fluffy!

Ingredients

  • 500 g flour
  • 40 g fresh yeast
  • 100 ml milk (3.5%)
  • 100 g flour
  • 110 g butter
  • 0.25 tsp salt
  • 4 eggs (M)
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 packet (8 g) vanilla sugar
  • 2 tbsp
  • 25 g butter
  • 2 packets (16 g) vanilla sugar
  • 1 tbsp
  • 25 g butter
  • 1 packet (8 g) vanilla sugar

Instructions

  1. Soak the Roman Pot: First, soak the Roman pot in cold water for at least 10 minutes.
  2. Sift the flour: Then, sift 500g of flour in a mixing bowl and create a well.
  3. Warm the milk: In a small pot, warm the milk to 30°C and then remove from the heat (Important: do not heat it more!). Dissolve the 40g yeast in the milk.
  4. Next, pour the milk-yeast mixture into the well.
  5. Then melt the butter and let it cool slightly.
  6. Whisk the ingredients: Add the salt, eggs, sugar, and vanilla sugar, and whisk everything together well.
  7. Cover the flour: Next, add 100g of flour to cover the yeast-milk mixture.
  8. Knead the dough: Now use a mixer with dough hooks, pour the egg-sugar mixture into the bowl, and stir constantly.
  9. Prepare the Roman pot: Prepare the Roman pot for the crust by spreading butter around the rim and sprinkling vanilla sugar over it.
  10. Shape the dough: Form 70g balls from the dough and place them in the Roman pot.
  11. Distribute butter and sugar: Finally, add butter flakes on top of the balls and sprinkle vanilla sugar over them.
  12. Bake in the Roman pot: Close the pot and bake it for 30 minutes at 50°C in the oven with top and bottom heat.
  13. Increase the temperature: After 30 minutes, increase the temperature to 200°C and bake for another 55 minutes.
  14. Finish baking: The steamed dumplings are ready to serve. For example, with 2 liters of vanilla sauce.
